Perhaps I overlook it, but:
Where do I have to enter the Google API key? I still get an OMC map.

Thanks! I feel very stupid. I completely missed the Phoca Maps configuration option in the configuration screen. I only looked at the map confguration at module->phocamaps. This all explains a lot.
