I am having major problems with the Phoca Gallery Module - Category List Layout...
I have created a category list layout with the name of Photos with the alias photos. After clicking on the menu link, instead of bringing me to a category list it brings me to a 404 page error and says it cannot find article #15...
If I rename the category list layout to something else it will work correctly and display the list...
I believe the reason for this is the way I set up phoca gallery.. I'll explain...
Originally my site was set up with a main menu that had a article layout link called Photos with alias of photos.. The id number of this article was #15... When clicking on the link it displayed an article with pictures of the subcategories which where embedded with links to their corresponding articles.. Those corresponding articles displayed a gallery of pictures..
The menu structure looked like this (simplified a bit)
Home
History
Photos
>Layout
>Trains
>>Diesel
>>Electric
>>Steam
>Other Activities
>>Fair
>>Fishing Trip
>>Steam Town
Videos
Etc
Etc
When I decided to use phoca gallery I didnt realize how to set up my structure.. I only made the end articles that displayed galleries phoca gallery category layouts... So Photos, Layout, Trains, and Other Activities where all article list layout's and the rest where now phoca category layouts...
This was working just fine, breadcrumbs displayed correctly and I was happy... But after reading more about phoca gallery I decided I wanted to replace the main photos gallery with a category list layout and the subcategories Layout, Trains, and Other activities into category layouts... And that is where everything went crazy... Before I replaced them I made a new menu option Testgallery with a category list layout... When I clicked on this link it showed the subcategories correctly and breadcrumbs displayed correctly... Once I clicked on a subcategory a lot of my modules disappeared. Also the breadcrumbs where displaying incorrectly... I checked my modules and noticed that any module that was not set to show on all was not appearing on the subcategories page.. If i had from selected list selected and picked Testgallery the modules would appear on the testgallery page but not when i clicked on the subcategory page... If i had all selected, my modules would show up on both the category and subcategory page...
Ok so i figured out where my modules had gone but why was that happening and why arnt my breadcrumbs working... after looking a little more I noticed that when clicking on the menu links photos trains electric, the breadcrumbs where fine... electric showed up as /category/1... but when i clicked on test gallery and went to electric it showed up as /category/1-electric... (not exact names)... So basically, the menus where pointing to one page and the category list subcategories where pointing to a different page...
So I decided okay lets delete all the articles, all the phoca gallery categories, menus, basically everything to do with the photos section and start new... So I made a new category list menu button called Photos with the alias of photos and clicked on the link to find the 404 error can't find article #15... I look at the links and it is pointing to categories not an article...
Sorry I know this is long, but if you can follow my logic there is definitely something wrong here... I can bypass this by just naming my menu Photos but changing the alias to photos1, but figured Id put this up here in case you can actually figure out what is wrong from this long ass mess that I wrote

Re: Phoca Gallery Module - Category List - Bug
Jan I was hoping you'd reply.. Yes after searching and searching and searching I did find those articles and it is indeed a SEF problem... I thought I had actually fixed everything by following those instructions... I can get my menu links to link to the correct pages.. ie category/28-trains instead of just category/28... and the breadcrumbs appear correctly...
Unfortunately I have two other major problems that have arisen from all of this...
1st problem.. When I make a new menu item, whatever I type in the alias (or is autofilled into alias) is where that menu will point to forever.. When I go back and change the alias it lets me change the values but when i click on the menu link from my website it will bring me to the first page with the original alias... When I go back to check if the alias was changed, it shows up with the changed alias.... I have to keep deleting the menu and then making a new menu with a completely unique alias that I have never used before.. I am running out of unique name ideas because I kept making new menus to figure out this whole sef mess...
Example of 1st problem... I create a menu link with name of photos and alias of photos... When I click on the menu link it will bring me to /photos...I then decide I want the alias to be something else... so i edit that menu and change the alias to gallery.. I now click on the menu link and it brings me to /photos not /gallery... WTF? Its driving me crazy.. The funny thing is, in joomla all my sef options are turned off!! Yet all my urls are sef friendly... Is it possible that my server has a sef feature that is overriding things and making it not allow me to rename alias's?
2nd problem... After creating a hidden menu with phoca catagory list... I went to my main menu and made a Photos external link menu pointing to /category/28-photos ... I then made Trains external link menu pointing to /category/28-trains and made the photos link a parent of trains... This should show up in my menus as photos and when you click photos trains should appear as a submenu.... As much as I try to get them to appear as submenu's it just wont happen.. is this because I am using an external link to hack around phoca gallerys major flaw??
Now If i go and make phoca gallery category in the main menu it will just point to /category/28 without the sef , and it won't let me change the link inside of joomla.. So I tried to go into myphpadmin and alter the menu database for photos and add the -photos after it in the link section.. This would make the phoca gallery category link go to the correct page /category/28-trains, but still not show up in the menu dropdowns...
I just can't believe how frustrating it is to set up menus that point to your galleries!!

Re: Phoca Gallery Module - Category List - Bug
Hi,
1) If you change the alias for some menu link in menu manager of Joomla! and the old is displayed there (the same after refreshing site), you should check your cache settings.
2) Maybe I don't understand it correctly, but when you will create hidden group, the menu links (not main, nor submenus) are not displayed on the site
Maybe you should see some guide about menu links, menu settings, etc. The problem is, all I can do with menu settings, etc. is writing an article I have wrote, I am not Joomla! developer so there cannot give any other advice or change some behaviour in this area
