Nivo Slideshow

Post by SaltyFog »

Hi there,

the nivo slideshow for j16 shows images larger than the specified settings in the module - simply, it just shows my largest thumbnail from the gallery and shows it over the content. All effects and things work as expected, but it does not behave at all like the demo... Your demo shows photos zooming and such as if they are inside a DIV with overflow set to hide... in my case it simply looks like a full size pop up jpg that transitions regardless of the settings.

Did you make images specific to fit the shape of the slideshow area?

I've left it live on a second level page for you to see... let me know when you do so i can hide it again so my visitors don't think i'm a bad designer lol.

axiomdesigns.ca - vinyl - water

with literally no description for the module it's hard to troubleshoot.
thanks,

Hi, yes, you need to set the size of large thumbnails to fit your slideshow area.

Hi Jan, that does solve the issue yes, thank you...
However, the workflow for our sites dictate we upload images to a category, folder, etc. Generate thumbnails and let the phoca plug ins do their thing.

To use the slideshow though it is set up to pull from the existing images we have, and these are not formatted to fit the slideshow, they are simply "as is" images the phocagallery displays. So to use the slideshow, it requires us to re upload to yet another category to have the slideshow function. And then hide that category from the phocagallery. I don't want a 950 x 250 image appearing in sections that are only supposed to have 1024x768 photos right?

Now I'm definitely not a coder, but it seems to me that somehow the slideshow could load the existing large thumbnail into a div that we can set to fit the "viewable area" we want. for instance, make my thumbnails naturally 1200x800 or something system wide.
We then enter in the div size for the slide show - 950x250. This div has no over flow, there by "cropping" said thumbnail with the additional options for alignment like, align left, align top, center, right, bottom.

Without this feature, we have to manually make the image, and upload duplicates and constantly have to refresh one folder of images solely for the slideshow rather than simply change image folder in the plug in to another image folder.

In my case i wanted to have images from on thing, let's say kitty cats appear on the kitty cat pages, and puppy dogs appear on the puppy dog pages. As it is now, I have to upload the images to phocagallery, then edit and upload the same things again for the slideshow. This seems redundant to me, as I would have to make yet more slideshow folders to continue the process for all the the topics and image groups I need to show.

Hi, yes, you need to set specific width for the slideshow.

So the best way is to create specific category, upload there images and create thumbnails with the size. Then in standard Phoca Gallery hide this category, so such category will be displayed only in slideshow.

You can set the size for your slideshow exactly how you need.
