map plugin showing codes, no map render

I am using Joomla 1.6 with component 2.0.0 and plugin 2.0.2
When I attach the plugin code to an article, it generates a few pages worth of the map code along with all the marker information.
It works perfectly fine as a menu item though. So I think the problem is within the plugin.
I have tried turning them off, on, uninstalling them, reinstalling them. Nothing works.
It just keeps on showing the missing images and the bare codes as if there is a broken link somewhere.
