How to upload to Phoca download

Post by Craggie »

I am new to Joomla and attempting to maintain an existing site. I have found a list of files in Phoca Download and I want to upload some files to add to that list. For the life of me, I cannot find how to do this. I am sure I will feel very foolish when I find the answer but I will have to risk that. Help!

Hi Craggie!

There are actually two ways of doing this that I know of, one is easy, the other is a little more difficult!

Method 1:
Log into the administrator end of Joomla!
Go to Components > Phoca Download > Files
Click New.

Under the New File section look for Filename. You can upload the file from there after putting in the rest of information as well.

Method 2:
You can create a menu item for front end users to upload as well. To do this you just have to do the following:
Log into the administrator end of Joomla!
Go to Menus > Main Menu (or whatever menu you want it on) > Add New Menu Item
Click Select next to Menu Item Type, under the Phoca Download section, click User Upload.

You should have at least one upload category for this method though.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, I rather thought that would be the route. However, I see no facility in components>phocadownload>files/new that will allow me to upload a file from an external source. I have previously been there and filled in the required fields in the hope that a download field would show up but I got nowhere.

When you go to the option of Filename under add file there is the place you can upload.

Click the Select Filename
And then click the upload tab (there should be upload and multiple upload
Click Choose File and that will bring up the file browser for that computer.

I wish there was another way to upload as well, but I haven't found it yet besides using multiple upload to get a bunch of files on, and then change the names manually.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do!

Thank you once again but I'm still stuck. I can use the Media Manager to upload a file successfully into either or both media>images or media>phocadownload. That's not a problem.
When I attempt to add the (recently uploaded) file into the appropriate section and category (within Phocadownload) I am indeed presented with al list of files as you suggest but these are the existing files, not the recently uploaded file. So the question is "where is it?". I think I am getting close to the solution but it's a hard slog and, as yet, I cannot see the underlying structure which would help me.

Further to your last note to me, I see a place where one might upload a file into the existing list: Under "Upload File" there are three options: Browse Files, Start Upload, Clear Completed - but none of these work or are active. Perhaps the problem is a fault in the installation. Rather looks like it.

Thank you. The site is being rebuilt. (The old one is out of date and corrupt!)
