OH . . . I see there are two. I think I first installed the plug in. Then it asked if I wanted to check for upgrades. I did and then I must have installed the component. Now I am really confused. They have the same online manual - the same instructions.

The component is what is installed now. The only related plugin is the gheshi one which is enabled.

Do I need to do something else - uninstall reinstall? Are there different instructions to be able to see the category list? Should I reenter my categories all over again? Do I want the plugin instead? I am really confused now.

OH . . . I guess I have to switch to the other forum now since I have the component.

Should I uninstall that and install the plugin? What is the difference? Will both enable a gallery to be shown on my article page?

I am new to joomla. I am so incredibly confused now.

I just reinstalled many categories and subcategories and added multiple and it made all new subcategories I didn't want since I had already typed them all in with the names I needed (not the brief folder names) so now I have multiple duplicate categories and I need to get rid of these but it won't delete them.
Oh my what a mess I have here now.
Good grief.

Maybe I just need to start all over again all over again.

So please read some information about components and plugins.

Phoca Gallery plugin will be used in article but Phoca Gallery component works without some pasting into the article...

You will install the comonent, then you will create a category, then you will add an image into the category and then you go to menu manager and will create a menu link to e.g. Phoca Gallery Categories view... If you do it, you will go to frontend, will click on Phoca Gallery menu link and you will see the images...

You can paste the Phoca Gallery images into an article, so you will use the plugin... See your plugin manager, there must be cca 20 plugins.... Just enable the Phoca Gallery plugin and add the code (you can see examples on Phoca Demo Site) into an article....

OK I see now.

OK I see now.

In this case I can use the component. It will be a whole page on its own linked to from the main menu of the website. With the gallery in it complete.

I do not need the plugin to put a few images on a page, as I just need a whole gallery this time. Thank you for explaining this. I will go do it and come back to component forum if I have questions then.

Now I understand how to use the plugin though - when I need that in the future. I really appreciate your kindness in explaining this.

thank you

I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I have the gallery working fine, I have a number of different categories and images work find from the link I have setup.

I then discovered you had this plugin to add content to an article. I installed that, and I made it active, it shows up with a tick.

I went to an article and added {phocagallery view=categories} as a start, but like the user above, all I see in the article is exactly that {phocagallery view=categories} no images etc.

Any suggestions?

Forget that, now it

Forget that, now it works, how weird. LOL. Just got to figure out now how to restrict it to just one category so it does not list all the categories.

Done, very cool, man

Actually, I have struck a problem, and it may be an easy fix. I have used the following in an article...

{phocagallery view=category|categoryid=3}

The gallery thumbs come up fine.

Click on an image and it displays fine, but if you then click play to start a slideshow, it does not work.

What it does, is try and look at images in the parent gallery, of which there are no images.

Fast forward or rewind buttons display all the galleries inside the parent this is sitting in.

Also, even though I have download turned off, when it is in an article, the download icon displays and is active.

Perhaps I have missed some "switches" to fix this?

Cheers
