There are some settings in Phoca Guestbook you can change. You can find them here:
Components » Phoca Guestbook » Items » [Parameters] button. But if you have created 'Menu link' for Phoca Guestbook, you must change the parameters in:
Menu » Main Menu (e.g.) » Phoca Guestbook » Parameters - Component. Parameters component settings override the default component settings, so you must make changes here, if you want these changes to be displayed.
Security parameters should be set in Parameters of the component (see Parameters button in Control Panel of Phoca Guestbook administration). Extensions can be accessed with different Itemids in frontend of Joomla! site, so allways use Parameters of the component (Global Configuration for the component) to set security settings, not Parameters in menu link to guestbook.
You can change the following parameters:

Yes - Email field will be displayed If requried, visitor must add an email address. User can add so many messages he/she wants per one Email address. But not registered and not logged in users cannot use Email address from some registered user. Of course, if user is not logged in, he/she is a guest (anonymous user). Guests or anonymous users cannot user en email address of some registered user. |

| Forbidden Whole Word Filter | '***' will be displayed instead of forbidden word. Only whole words will be changed, e.g.: 'car' ==> car --> ***, carefully --> carefully (no strings, only whole words will be changed) |
| IP Ban | You can ban IP(s). Visitors with banned IP(s) cannot add a message |
| Maximum Characters | Protection against long text. Only e.g. 2000 characters will be saved in database. But don't forget that e.g. URL link 'link' has no 4 characters but e.g. 30 (link) |
| Maximum URL | Maximum of URL(s) which will be displayed in message box. If visitor leaves messages with e.g. 50 URL links, only 5 will be displayed as URL links. All other will be displayed as text only. |
| Not Allowed URL Identification Words | Set words, which will identify not allowed URLs within the post. Separate each word with comma (,). Example: ://,.htm,.asp,.jsp,.php,www.,.com,.org,.net |
| Enable CAPTHCA | The CAPTCHA image verification can be enabled or disabled. |
